BTK (Bind, Torture, Kill) is a serial killer who was active in the Wichita, Kansas area from 1974 to 1991. He was responsible for the murders of at least ten people, including women, children, and two entire families. BTK was known for sending taunting letters to police and media outlets, in which he detailed his crimes and took credit for them.
BTK's real name is Dennis Rader. He was born in 1945 and grew up in Wichita. He worked as a code compliance officer and was active in his church and community. However, behind closed doors, he was a sadistic and violent killer.
BTK was known for his methodical approach to killing and his use of bindings and restraints. He would often target women who were home alone, breaking into their houses and ambushing them. He would then bind them, torture them, and ultimately kill them. BTK's crimes shocked the Wichita community and sent police on a decades-long search for the killer.
In 2005, after a lull in BTK's activity, he resurfaced and began communicating with police again. This eventually led to his arrest and conviction for the murders. In court, he showed no remorse for his crimes and was sentenced to ten consecutive life sentences. He is currently serving his sentence at the El Dorado Correctional Facility in Kansas.
